At AC by Marriott Charlotte, balconies are available in select rooms, with guests particularly recommending those “facing the nearby Spectrum Center” for the best views. One satisfied guest specifically mentioned “Lovevtye balcony and outside view,” confirming that these outdoor spaces deliver a positive visual experience.
However, there’s a notable caveat: some reviews mention noise from a “nightclub on the balcony,” which could be a dealbreaker if you’re a light sleeper or seeking tranquility. This is definitely something to consider when weighing your options.
My AirPods were taken from my room immediately after I checked out. I realized I had left them and tried calling the hotel. They said the room had been cleaned and the cleaning staff hadn't mentioned anything about them. Guess where we won't be staying again? I would suggest that you decline any room cleaning here and lock things in the safe when you leave.
Concierge staff was great.
Breakfast was really good. Bacon was crispy and perfect, the croissants were amazing.
They charge for coffee (not sure if there was a complimentary station somewhere and I missed it, not sure.)
Great area. Safe.
I didn’t check out the rooftop bar. I wish I had.
Room service didn’t come at all so I thought that was different.

For those seeking a more upscale balcony experience, The Ivey’s Hotel delivers with dedicated “Balcony Suites” that feature king beds, turndown service, and luxurious Frette linens and towels. Previous guests specifically recommend opting for “a room with a balcony facing the fountain” for the most picturesque views.
Unlike some other options on our list, balconies at The Ivey’s are clearly positioned as a premium amenity, suggesting a more thoughtfully designed outdoor space.
The Ivey’s consistently receives glowing reviews, with guests describing their stays as “amazing” and the rooms as “stunning” and “high-end.” This boutique hotel maintains impressive ratings across booking platforms, including 9.1 on Booking.com and 9.4 on Expedia.
Check-in was a breeze, and soon we were heading upstairs to our room (note: the elevator was out of service at my visit, so you may need to ask about accommodations). Space in any large city is a hot commodity, and I honestly couldn't believe the size of our room. It was incredibly spacious with plenty of room to breathe, even though it was fully furnished with a plush King bed, seating area, wet bar, work station, and more. And the bathroom—I wished I could carve it out and take it home with me.
But the best thing about our room may have been the balcony. It was such a treat to step outside and feel the energy of the city I'm proud to call home.
You can leave the hotel if you want—you're right in the heart of everything, after all—but there really isn't a reason to. Sophia's Lounge is connected to the hotel, and it offers delicious cocktails and small plates. Our server Jordan helped guide us through the tempting menu, and we landed on a perfect mix of bites and sips for the evening (don't forget your free glass of wine during guest happy hour—Anthony made sure our pours were generous!).
In the morning, you can order room service from a European-inspired menu. Breakfast in bed is the best way to end a hotel stay without getting the end-of-vacation blues.
If you're looking for a luxurious and local stay in Uptown, I highly recommend a stay at The Ivey's. Thanks to Madison and Marissa for making sure we enjoyed a stay to remember!
The room was smaller than the online photos made it appear, but it was a very nice and clean room nonetheless, I enjoyed the expensive in-room wet bar and the well-appointed bathroom. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were not as flat as in other 4-star hotels I've stayed at. The in-hotel restaurant, Sophia's Lounge was nice and worth a try. The pork belly and scallops were worth a try (the pork belly the scallops not so much)
All in all, I would stay there again, with some experience-based adjustments.
However, due to the unprofessional and rude front desk member, I will not return. I usually assume if someone is rude once, they may just be having a bad day, but if it is a repeated pattern over the course of multiple encounters - it's a problem. I even tried to extend my stay and was told by this member of your staff (twice) that I couldn't stay an additional night. Luckily, the front desk member who replaced her in the morning was far more accommodating and I was able to stay.
The experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I will switch my business back to the Bohemian when I return to uptown.
We’ve stayed at The Ivey Hotel three times over the last few months, spending thousands on their most premium rooms. While our first two stays in the balcony rooms were pleasant, our most recent experience in the executive suite was a major letdown. The lighting in the suite is incredibly poor, making the room feel dim and unwelcoming. The in-room technology is outdated—the TV is old, and the tablets are so slow they’re practically unusable.
One of the few highlights of the hotel is the housekeeping staff—they are fantastic. Friendly, detail-oriented, and clearly take pride in their work. Unfortunately, the front desk and valet service are a completely different story.
At check-in, the receptionist made no effort to be welcoming. Despite seeing that we had our hands full with luggage, she didn’t offer to help, didn’t provide a pen when asking us to sign documents, and barely acknowledged our presence. Meanwhile, two other employees were loudly arguing next to us—hardly the level of professionalism one expects from a luxury hotel.
The valet service was just as disappointing. It was raining when we arrived, and instead of offering to help with bags or even open car doors, the valet staff stood under the awning, letting us and our luggage get drenched. Again, this is supposed to be a five-star hotel, yet the service we received was barely on par with a three-star experience.
The Ivey has potential, but without significant improvements in service, it’s failing to meet the expectations of high-end travelers. We won’t be returning.
The bottom floor leads into a market that has several quick eats - mostly Korean which is awesome to see as I’m Korean and have a hard time finding restaurants from South Korea! We didn’t try it but grabbed a water before walking uptown and the cashier was one of the happiest people I’ve ever met!
We ordered in room service (truffle fries and skillet cookie) and the gentleman who brought it was incredibly professional and on time. There was also a small bottle of champagne on ice after re returned from our walk!
Later on in the evening there was a turndown service and offered us chocolates and asked if we needed any extra blankets, pillows, or towels.
The next morning we had the sweetest hostess/sever ever! Ashley (I think was her name) was quick, knowledgeable, and interested in our reason for visiting/adventures! Couldn’t be happier with Sophie’s breakfast selection. I had the yogurt parfait, fresh fruit, and an eggs Benedict while my hubby had the Lottie bagel which he loved especially with the pickled onions with fresh fruit and hash browns which were different and 🤤 delicious!
Wonderful! Amazing! 🤩 experience!! Definitely recommend if you’re looking for an amazing boutique style night away from home 😍
The bed was very hard and our room was street view and we found that the rooms did not insulate sound very well from people driving by with music or from people on the street talking very loud.
The hotel decided to tip themselves 24% gratuity on food taken from the minibar, which I felt was inappropriate. Parking is also $45 a night, which is not unheard of for Charlotte, but check-in took a little longer than expected and the person at the front did not mention the fee (I am guessing it was somewhere in the paperwork I signed but was tired by the time it was my turn to check in and I missed it because I was in a hurry). Edit - I found a welcome email that stated parking was $45 a night in small print at the bottom of an email.
While the hotel was overall nice, due to taxes and other fees, the price for one night stay ended up being 1/3 over what was listed on the website.

Similar to The Ivey’s, guest feedback for The Ballantyne recommends rooms “with a balcony facing the fountain” for optimal views. The hotel offers balconies across various accommodation types, including the “One-Bedroom Presidential Suite” with a “private balcony” and a “Four-Bedroom Cottage” that also features outdoor space.
This suggests a range of balcony experiences depending on your room category, with the more premium options likely offering more spacious and well-appointed outdoor areas.
The Ballantyne generally earns high marks from guests, often described as “absolutely stunning” with “impeccable service” and “outstanding food.” The “amazing amenities” are frequently highlighted, contributing to solid ratings around 4.4 out of 5 on Marriott’s website and between 9.0 and 9.2 on other platforms.
The location was perfect, close to everything I needed and easy to get around. But what really made the stay memorable was the incredible hospitality. I have to give a special shout-out to Marlos, a staff member who went above and beyond. He was extremely welcoming upon my arrival and even recommended a great local restaurant—then personally took me there! That level of service is rare and truly appreciated.
Highly recommend this hotel for both events and personal stays. I’ll definitely be back!
The staff went above and beyond to ensure every need was met, always with genuine hospitality and a smile. The amenities were top-tier — I especially enjoyed the spa services, which left me completely relaxed and recharged. Courtney gave an excellent salt scrub body (stress relief body ritual).
The gym has a great variety of equipment. I got my 10k step in with their treadmill.
Dining at the hotel was a treat; the food was thoughtfully prepared, delicious, and the service was impeccable. Every space in the hotel feels elegant, comfortable, and welcoming — perfect for both business and leisure.
I forgot to take room photos because I jumped in the bed so quick!
If you’re looking for a refined, relaxing experience with exceptional service, I can’t recommend The Ballantyne enough. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!
I booked this trip as a breather for my birthday, hoping to find some peace after recently losing a loved one. Instead, I was met with an experience that added to my grief. From the moment I arrived, I felt racially profiled—not just by the hotel staff but also in the restaurant. I was treated as if I didn’t belong or couldn’t afford to be there, solely based on the color of my skin. It was not only offensive but deeply hurtful.
To make matters worse, the room wasn’t properly cleaned, and the bed was far from comfortable. For a hotel of this caliber, this was an insult to injury.
To my fellow African American travelers: please be mindful when choosing to stay here. No one should ever be made to feel less than, especially during what should be a time of rest and healing.
Two things that they lack, more choices on the menu for vegetarians etc. All I could have for Brunch was the Truffle fries. Another issue is there is no continental breakfast or even coffee in the room 🙄
I found myself wanting to go out and eat even though I was staying in a LUXURY Hotel. That should not be. Otherwise it's a wonderful place to stay. The staff is top notch 👌
When I needed my car Jeffrey brought it around making sure it was warm. Day of departure Jack was patient assisting me getting all my belongings to the car & keeping it warm. Ryan & Maggie expedited my check out knowing I had a 6 hour drive. As a GM Evan has found the perfect team to make your stay relaxing, special, & enjoyable. I will be back there again soon. When you visit Charlotte The Ballantyne Hotel will provide you the best experience!
All the staff are friendly and welcoming. Likewise, Jeff in in-room dining helped create a memorable first night with organizing champagne and chocolate covered strawberries!
We also tried the couples massage in the spa and the amenities, staff, and rooms were fantastic. The in hotel restaurant is also a must try, we chose to eat breakfast and prefer it over other options locally!

The Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel offers rooms with balconies, with guests specifically recommending those “facing the fountain” for the best views. While details about the balconies themselves are somewhat limited in reviews, the recommendation pattern suggests they’re a desirable feature at this property.
A major highlight is the “great rooftop bar,” which provides an alternative outdoor space even if you don’t book a balcony room. The hotel is described as “warm, welcoming, and unpretentiously stylish” with “vibrant color” and “impressive views of Uptown.”
For travelers seeking a stylish uptown hotel with balcony options and a popular rooftop space, the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel offers a solid choice, though be prepared for some potential service inconsistencies.
I’m getting out of my Uber across the street from the hotel, and out of nowhere, Dre (one of the valet guys) runs across to help me with my bags. He didn’t even know I was a guest yet—he just saw someone with luggage and jumped into action. I told him I was heading to the hotel and when I looked at his shirt, I was like, “ I’m actually staying with you guys!” 🥹 He was so sweet!
Then he introduced me to Austin at the front desk and whew, talk about friendly, professional, and genuinely warm. I immediately felt welcome and cared for. Huge thank you, Austin, you made check-in feel like coming home seriously.
Now let’s talk about the elevators top-tier security. You can’t even go up without a room key, which I love, but I was moving a little slow figuring it out 😅 and Tanya stepped in to help me with such patience and grace. Thank you, Tanya!
This hotel is stunning and employees are attentive, and the level of customer service here? Next level. I truly feel like I’m being treated like royalty. If you’re coming to Charlotte, this is the place to stay. Kimpton Tryon Park, whoever did your hiring kudos. You hired with intention and it shows. ❤️
The hotel is brilliantly located in walking distance to most sights and things to do in Uptown including the stadium. Staff are very friendly, cleaning staff do a good and the rooms are very well equipped with comfortable beds and a very nice bathroom. We would happily return and recommend to anyone wishing to stay in Charlotte. We stayed on the 17th floor and had no noise issues whatsoever
Beyond the aesthetics, its prime Uptown Charlotte location makes it a convenient and stylish choice for couples and their wedding parties. The staff is always professional and accommodating, ensuring a seamless experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a luxurious and photogenic setting in Charlotte!
Front desk was very personable, John Anthony was so sweet upon arrival. Loved having options of places to eat on premise and near by. The lobby serves coffee and croissants, which is such a great touch, if you want a fun latter or specialty coffee then hop Nextdoor to the water bean.
Typically I like to have a gym accessible for my stay. This one was great, with a small patio and outdoor overlook it made me feel like I was in a much larger space. Plenty of equipment in there to get a good pump and run in!
Would have over to visit the rooftop bar as well but time just didn’t permit

The Sonesta Charlotte Executive Park offers “King room with balcony” options that guests generally find “nice to have.” One particularly enthusiastic review highlighted the value proposition: “where else on major cities in NC are you finding rooms as nice as this with balconies for around 100 a night!?”
However, there’s an important caveat: “Some guests were disappointed to find that the rooms did not automatically come with a balcony, despite the advertisement.” This suggests you’ll need to specifically request a balcony room when booking to avoid disappointment.

The Courtyard by Marriott Ballantyne offers rooms with balconies that receive generally positive reviews. Guests have shared enthusiastic comments like “Our Balcony View Was Beautiful” and “I love the room with the balcony.”
A particularly appealing aspect is the potential for lake views, with advice to “Request a Room with a Lake View” as some guests were “pleasantly surprised by the lake view from their balconies.” There’s also a recommendation to “Confirm Balcony View” during booking, suggesting some variability in the outlooks.
Some negative reviews mention “significant complaints regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of the property” and concerns about “outdated amenities and bathroom facilities.” There were also some issues raised about “the comfort of the beds.”
Dining-wise, be aware that the “Bistro style restaurant” doesn’t offer a free continental breakfast, and “Dinner and alcohol are very pricey.” One review also noted the absence of a microwave in the room.
For travelers seeking a balcony room in the Ballantyne area, particularly with potential lake views, this property offers a solid option with generally positive reviews, though with some caveats regarding amenities and maintenance.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at this hotel warrants one. From the moment I arrived, the service fell short of even basic expectations. Check-in was slow and disorganized, with the front desk staff seeming uninterested and unprepared. There was no welcome or helpful information offered—just a room key handed over with minimal communication.
Unfortunately, things only got worse from there. Once in the room, I noticed something crawling near the baseboards and, upon closer inspection, discovered carpet beetle larvae. This is not only unsettling but a serious hygiene concern. I immediately contacted the front desk, and while they acknowledged the issue, there was no offer to change rooms or even a sincere apology. Just a vague promise to “have someone look at it.”
The room itself felt dated and not especially clean, which only added to the discomfort. After a long day of travel, this is the last thing anyone wants to deal with.
There are plenty of hotels in this area, and I strongly advise others to consider alternatives. Between the lackluster service and the pest issue, this hotel did not meet even the most basic standards for comfort or cleanliness. I will not be returning.
The best part was definitely the service - from start to finish, everyone we interacted with was so kind and so helpful.
Tyler at the bistro counter was very accommodating, even though we arrived right when they were closing up.
The ladies at the service desk Friday and Saturday (unfortunately I did not get their names) were extremely helpful to us since my mom had a request for something.
The wonderful service we received would definitely bring us back to stay here again.
Rooms are awesome, staff is fantastic.
The room was immaculate, beautifully decorated, and equipped with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. I was also impressed with the cleanliness and upkeep of the entire property. I love the view I had as I worked from my room.
One of the highlights was the hotel’s pool and restaurant. My kids enjoyed being able to swim during the winter. Zaine did his thing at the bar and the food was great.
The location was perfect describe if it's near attractions, restaurants, or in a convenient area. It made exploring the city effortless and enjoyable.
Overall, my stay exceeded my expectations in every way. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, quality service, and a memorable experience. I can’t wait to return!
The room was spacious, immaculate, and a great value. The staff went the extra mile in every way. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, and even arranged to collect my (self-serve) laundry the day I left for work and forgot it in the dryer. Housekeeping was excellent and kept me topped up with everything I needed.
The gym is small, but very clean with good equipment and I never had to wait to use one of the 2 treadmills. There is a pool, but I did not use it -- it's too small to do laps, and there is a window from the lobby looking over it.
The restaurant (Bistro - order at the counter to dine in or takeaway) truly exceeded expectations. I ate most of my breakfasts there, and several dinners. The food was good (surprisingly good french fries!). Everyone at the restaurant did a great job, juggling taking orders and cooking, but there were 2 stand-outs: a young blonde woman (did not get her name) went out of her way to be helpful and make sure I had what I needed. Also Mary, who after my breakfast order the first day, remembered every morning what I liked and had it ready to go.
The location cannot be beat. There are several shopping centers and restaurants a short walk or drive from here. I could walk to my office. It's also not far from the airport.
I slept pretty well here, but very light sleepers will want ear plugs. I had one neighbor who was a bit noisy. There is a door to the stairs that has shrieking hinges (I probably should have reported that to maintenance). It was the only issue I encountered here, and in comparison to most hotels of this type, it was pretty quiet.
All in all, a really solid hotel and I will definitely stay here again the next time I'm in town.
