Hotels With Balconies In Columbus Ohio
So, you’re planning a trip to Columbus, Ohio and you’re thinking, “I want a hotel with a balcony”. Let’s talk about that.
Columbus is a cool city. There’s a lot going on, from the Short North arts district to the bustling downtown scene. And what better way to experience it all than from the comfort of your own private balcony?
Imagine this: You wake up in the morning, slide open the balcony door, and take in the fresh air. Maybe you’re in a luxury hotel with a view of the city skyline. Or perhaps you’re in a budget-friendly spot with a peek at the treetops. Either way, it’s a pretty sweet way to start your day.
Where to stay in Columbus for a balcony view
Columbus has a few different neighborhoods that offer something unique. Let’s break it down.
- Downtown Columbus: If you want to be in the heart of the action, then a downtown hotel with a balcony is the way to go. You’ll be close to all the best restaurants, bars, and shops. Plus, you’ll get amazing views of the city skyline.
- Short North: This trendy neighborhood is known for its art galleries, boutiques, and nightlife. If you’re looking for a more hip and eclectic vibe, a hotel with a balcony in the Short North could be perfect.
- Polaris: If you’re traveling for business or want a more suburban feel, Polaris is a good option. There are plenty of hotels with balconies in this area, and you’ll be close to shopping and dining.
- Grove City: For a quieter and more affordable option, consider a hotel with a balcony in Grove City. It’s a suburb with easy access to downtown Columbus.
What to look for in a hotel with a balcony in Columbus
So you’ve decided you want a hotel with a balcony in Columbus. Cool. But what should you be looking for?
- Size of the balcony: Not all balconies are created equal. Some are tiny, while others are big enough to host a party.
- Furniture: Some hotels will provide furniture for your balcony, like chairs and a small table.
- View: If you’re all about the views, make sure to ask about what you can see from your balcony.
- Privacy: Some balconies are more private than others. If you’re looking for some peace and quiet, this might be important to you.

Some great things about the Moxy -
- centrally located in Short North, very cool area
- free drink tokens at check-in
- cool bar that doubles as a check-in counter
- youthful, fun, lots of games in the lobby
- super nice staff
- nice, hip rooms with good views, though small
- easy communication with the staff through the Marriott app
- easy valet with secure parking for pretty decent price
Some things to know about the Moxy -
- It's kind of designed like a hostel (in the best way) -- everything is very communal, meant to help you socialize and hang out. Ironing boards are in the hallway, for example, and of course the bar is kind of the central focus of the lobby.
- It's loud at night. The rooftop bumps music until 2AM or so. If you can't sleep near noise or you need to go to bed early, maybe choose somewhere else. We planned to stay out late (and have no problem sleeping near noise), so this wasn't an issue for us.
Some things I personally didn't love about this Moxy -
-This particular Moxy is a little cramped and the walls are very, very thin -- plus, the design of the building causes noise from the rooftop to be heard in every room.
- The rooftop seemed to be inaccessible unless you entered from the lobby, in which you have to wait in a line to get up because the roof is public access. I'm guessing this is for safety, but was still a bit strange
- The bathrooms are a sliding door (which I never prefer), and were pretty squeaky, so we could hear the rooms around us opening and closing their bathroom doors, too. The doors may need to be greased to be quieter/smoother.
Overall, we loved our stay at the Moxy, and would recommend it for similar groups who are planning to use the hotel as a landing pad for a night out in SN. We loved that our room had 2 queens with a door in between, so we could stay with our friends but have a little bit of privacy. We love hanging at the bar and in communal areas, so the lobby was a great way to start and end the night.
Definitely a great hotel as long as you know what to expect!
If that’s not enough for you, the hotel itself is also awful: teeny, tiny rooms, no microwave, no mini fridge, no counter space for anything, the elevators suck, and you don’t even get a comforter! It’s the tiniest quilt that provides no warmth. You get a free drink, that is the worst drink I’ve ever had. I hate this hotel. I’m never staying at a moxy again.
Apart from the positives/negatives of the brand itself, I love this hotel. The great location is my primary driver, but the friendly, kind, and competent staff are why I choose this over the competition in the area (Ryder & Penny, you are angels).
My three-year old daughter and I stayed from a Thursday evening until Sunday morning in January. I'm writing this review at 1:30 am on Sunday after being woken from a sound sleep, AGAIN, by thumping bass from the club on the top floor.
We were originally put on the eighth floor, but after a horrible night of sleep from unending bass on Thursday evening, asked to be moved to another floor on Friday morning. The manager on staff moved us to the seventh floor, which is three floors away from the club.
Around midnight on Saturday, the bass was again so loud that my daughter and I were wide awake. I spent most of my night trying to console a toddler because the club upstairs is horribly loud. Here we are again, for the third night in a row.
This trip was soured so badly because my daughter and I were horribly sleep deprived the entire time we were in Columbus. The Moxy is a cute, boutique hotel, but I will avoid it at any cost so I can actually sleep in the hotel room I paid for.
Maybe things are better on the lowest floor, but if you're on the seventh floor or above, you will be shaken awake by bass from the club starting at midnight until 3:00 am. Not even two sound machines can overcome the monotonous, thudding bass.
Goodbye, Moxy. I won't be seeing you.
Besides the valet, the hotel is in a great location and the front desk staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Be wary of rooms with a shared door between them - you will hear EVERYTHING in the next room. But the staff was great and moved me for my last night stay to a quiet room.
